Early Life and Academic Pursuits

Aniekan Okon Akpansung was founded in the Akwa Ibom State, Nigerian local government area known as Ikono Local Authority. He showed a great passion in economics when he was young, a topic that would later be very important for the evolution of his career. His educational and career path started in 1987 when he earned with a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Calabar. Driven to learn more in-depth, he chose to enroll in the same university and complete a Master of Science degree in Economics in 2000. Aniekan kept on his study and finally graduated from the University of Calabar with a doctorate in economics in 2007. He was not ready to end there without advancing his knowledge.

Academic and Professional Career

Aniekan’s academic career started with his admission in the Department of Economics at Modibbo Adama University, in Yola, Nigeria. His relentless dedication and great knowledge helped him to become well-known as a notable economist quite quickly. Over his career, he fought his way up the ranks to finally be a Professor of Economics, a position he presently holds with honor.

Apart from the teaching and research responsibilities he is in charge of, the editorial work Professor Akpansung has done has been well appreciated in the academic scene. He has been reviewing the African Development Review since 2020, where he has offered his sharp analytical skills to help to assess economic research carried out over the continent.
